Deciphering the mechanisms underlying tissue morphogenesis is crucial for our fundamental understanding of development and for regenerative medicine. In the team, we study epithelia, abundant tissues covering internal and external surfaces of the body and organs, composed of polarized epithelia cells. They are linked by adherens junction ensuring the mechanical barrier and the septate junctions forming the permeability barrier. Bicellular junctions connect two adjacent cells, while at three cells corner, tricellular junctions are assembled. Despite their key functions including cell division orientation, transepithelial migration, stem cells homeostasis and integrity of blood brain barrier, tricellular junctions remains largely unknown. In Drosophila melanogaster, Sidekick, Gliotactin, Anakonda and M6 are the components known to localize at tricellular junction. By combining fly genetics, live imaging of pupal notum, FRAP and laser nanosurgery, I am trying to understand the role of tricellular junction on epithelium homeostasis.
